However, his words,. And O my people, let not [your] dissension from me cause you to be struck by that similar to what struck the people of Noah or the people of Hud or the people of Saleh. And the people of Lot are not from you far away.
It is said that he was either weak of vision or blind. And he was granted a special favour — namely, such eloquence in speech and argument that thousands of years later Prophet Muhammad SAW said about him,. Ibn Kathir. Among these were their dishonest and deceitful trade practices their corrupting the land by highway robbery, and other evil actions.
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. So fear Allah and obey me. And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. And weigh with an even balance. And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption.
And fear He who created you and the former creation. Then like the people of other prophets before them, they threw out an impertinent challenge:. It was not for him to compel them to believe and accept guidance, nor to punish them for not doing so, for the decreeing and arrangement of matters lay with Allah alone, and he rest his case with Him.
He reminded them of the divine retribution that had come upon the people who preceded them, whose stories they knew only too well. And He is the best of judges. The arrogant ones threatened to drive the prophet out of their community unless he followed their idol-worshipping ways. But the unbelievers would have none of this. Even though they recognised the truth of what their prophet was saying to them, their pride, stubbornness and love of the life to which they were accustomed would not let them admit it.
He advised them to give due rights to people in trade, to be honest and to not act wickedly. As their prophet continued to preach and warn, the unbelievers continued to wickedly turn his faith and his words against him. Indeed, my Lord is Merciful and Affectionate. Then, at last, with unshakeable trust in Allah, his Protector, he threw out a bold challenge to the unbelievers:.
You are going to know to whom will come a punishment that will disgrace him and who is a liar. So watch; indeed, I am with you a watcher, [awaiting the outcome]. With terrible, stunning swiftness, the divine retribution fell. What was the retribution? Allah most High describes in powerful image-invoking language.
And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day. The Qur'an points to the story of Moses a Moses and Shu'ayb a , referring to Shu'ayb a as Moses's a father in law, but some exegetes of the Qur'an believe that Shu'ayb a the prophet was different from the Shu'ayb a mentioned in the Qur'an and the Torah as the father of Moses's a wife.
The Qur'an refers to the problem with the people of Shu'ayb a as a financial corruption on which they persisted even after Shu'ayb's a efforts by bringing scales and measures. Shu'ayb a was a progeny of the Prophet Ibrahim a. His father was Madyan b. Ibrahim and his mother was a daughter of Lut a the prophet. Nuwayb b.
Madyan b. They say that, after Sarah , Ibrahim a married a woman from Canaan from whom Madyan was born. There is a disagreement among scholars as to whether Jethro, the Moses's a father in law mentioned in the Torah, is the same person as Shu'ayb a the prophet. It is reported that after Moses a helped Shu'ayb's a daughters in supplying water to the animals and accompanied them to Shu'ayb's a house, one of his daughters suggested that Moses a be employed to help them.
Shu'ayb a welcomed the suggestion and so, he offered Moses a to work for him and to marry his daughter. The offer was accepted by Moses a , and he married Shu'ayb's a daughter after his contract with Shu'ayb a ended. The story of Shu'ayb a and his people is not mentioned in the Torah. The only mention is that after Moses a killed the Copt man, he fled from Egypt to Midian to the end of the story where he met a person known as "the priest in Midian".
The Qur'an has pointed to the story of Shu'ayb a in over 40 verses of Qur'an 7 , Qur'an 11 , Qur'an 26 , Qur'an 29 , and Qur'an 28 , but the word, "Shu'ayb", occurs only 11 times [5] most of which are concerned with Shu'ayb's a divine mission, such as management, social rights, moralities, the propagation of monotheism , and economic reforms.
They are also concerned with people who denied Shu'ayb's a mission and their punishment. Allaah Knows best. State of Belief of Prophets Before Prophecy. The Message of all Prophets Is Same.
